I was sure the e-ticket mentioned that this Southwest airlines flight had Wi-Fi access, but my phone kept hunting for it like a deer panting for water in the dry months at the Mara. We had just taken off from the John Wayne airport in Santa Ana and I was trying to find something to keep me busy for the next two hours before we landed in Sacramento.
I gave up the fervent search soon after, my phone did not, when my mission impossible was interrupted by a smiling, tall, slender cabin crew member who wanted to know what kind of beverage I wanted to have. “Orange juice”, I replied as she went ahead to pour my drink in a disposable plastic cup – I was expecting a can or a bottle.
A vast, shimmering blanket of blue on the window to my right caught my eye. How I wished right then that I had paid extra attention in my Geography class in high school – it would have spared me the embarrassment of having to ask the kind lady who was seated next to me which lake that was…
